After my retirement from ICU and Hospice Nursing in 2005, I found photography and travel to be a rewarding togetherness pastime for my husband and me in our leisure years.
My interest in nature photography began with seeing a Great Blue Heron on the dock in our backyard in Florida and, after moving to Barrington, (a designated a Great Blue Heron sanctuary), and discovering a Great Blue Heron on the lake in my backyard greeting me. My husband and I have made photography trips back to Florida every other spring for several years since.
The focus on the pure nature aspect of photography (not allowing any hint of the human element) began with my participation in the Riverwoods Nature Photographic Society camera club and later in Photographic Society of America where I achieved the PPSA distinction.
Serving on the board of Citizens for Conservation, with access to the beautiful prairies of Grigsby and Flint Creek Savanna and Chairing the South Barrington Conservancy Commission with its creation of native wildflower gardens, all expanded my photographic focus to native plants, insects, and landscapes. But my first love still remains the large wading birds.
I have been fortunate to have been awarded the William H. Miller Award from CFC for vision in conservation and environment restoration. My photography interest was a major factor in this community education. The Kohout Nature Award from Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association (CACCA) was awarded to my husband and me for our promotion of nature photography in community education.
This new Barrington Digital Gallery project will continue the focus on our love of the natural beauty of the Barrington area.
