My fascination with the natural world began as a child, and my pursuit of photography was cultivated in high school, so it was probably inevitable that these interests would merge. Whenever I travel, I first research the natural history of my intended destination and first pack my photography gear. The pandemic of the past couple of years has kept me closer to my Barrington home, but I have used the restrictions as an opportunity to closely explore the many natural areas near Barrington and throughout northeastern Illinois.
Using available light and natural compositional elements, I seek to produce images that possess an inherent fantasy, as if they are windows to an idealized world. I have published photography articles in Darkroom Techniques magazine and contributed photography and articles to Lake Superior Magazine and the annual Lake Superior calendar.
Since 1990 I have been exhibiting fine art photographic prints of landscapes, nature portraits and nature abstracts in juried art shows, including the annual Art in the Barn at Good Shepherd Hospital. My “Peek-a-Boo” green frog portrait included in this gallery was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 2021 Art of the Land exhibit benefitting the Land Conservancy of McHenry County.
