Thomas Balsamo

“I have been photographing nature since 1970 when I received my first camera as a birthday gift when I was 10.

Growing up in Lake Barrington I captured flint creek, McGraw’s farm and surrounding areas through the seasons.

I was quite young when I discovered the work and book “The Decisive Moment” from French Photographer Henry Cartier-Bersson and Karsh 50 year retrospective. From Henry and Yoseph Karsh I was so inspired to capture true representations of people and Decisive Moments in nature and around me.

Photography has given me a life filled with Joy and excitement.

I believe photographers have a great responsibility. Photography is powerful because it can cause the viewer to experience an emotional response over and over when the work is viewed.

I am so blessed to have lived in the Barrington area throughout. I have had the privilege of  experiencing many beautiful sunrises, sunsets and met so many incredible people through my capturing images for over 5 decades.”
